Gift Vouchers For College Costs
A new pilot scheme has been launched giving gift vouchers towards the cost of further education courses. The vouchers are currently being piloted in nine colleges throughout England and are worth £50. Skills Minister David Lammy said: “This is an original method of attracting more people and I hope that other colleges will be encouraged to follow suit.”
The gift voucher scheme was launched at the College of North East London. Among the most popular courses at the college are subjects such as music technology, barbering, fitness instruction and childcare.
The gift voucher idea is the latest attempt to offer financial incentives for young people to stay in education and training. The educational maintenance allowance (EMA) was introduced to provide a cash incentive for teenagers to stay on in school or college beyond the age of 16.
