Snow causing further disruption
Thousands of schoolchildren are facing a second day off classes as the UK struggles to get back to normal after the worst snowfall in 18 years.
The snow is expected to move north, so schools in north-east England, eastern Scotland and the Borders are likely to bear the brunt of Tuesday's weather. There is also a severe ice warning in place across much of the UK.
Parents should call their child's school, or the local authority, to check if it is open. Many schools also have their own websites.
Here is the situation as of 1020 GMT on Tuesday.
England
Places as far apart as Bradford, Birmingham and Surrey are all affected - with local authorities in all three areas deciding to close their schools.
A blanket closure of all schools in Dudley, Birmingham and Solihull was ordered on Monday evening.
Tony Howell, strategic director of Birmingham's Children Young People & Families department, said: "Conditions are expected to be extremely cold and icy and more dangerous than yesterday.
"Our highways department is expecting very difficult conditions on the roads and is advising the public not to travel unless essential."

In Nottinghamshire 26 schools have closed so far.
Despite the weather situation being much improved, 43 schools remain out of bounds in Oxfordshire.
In Shropshire, 63 have shut; in Bristol, more than 30. A total of 60 schools were confirmed as closed or part-closed in Gloucestershire.
