TV Pair To Launch Child Book Club

TV hosts Richard and Judy are hoping to boost child literacy by launching a children’s version of their book club on their Channel Four show. School pupils have helped producers select eight books for readers aged five and above, to feature on the TV show. The following titles were selected from pupils in Kent, Hertfordshire, Richmond upon Thames and Sheffield:

·         Aliens Love Underpants – Claire Freedman & Ben Cort

·         Poppy and Max and the Fashion Show – Sally Grindley & Lindsey Gardiner

·         Spy Dog – Andrew Cope

·         The World According to Humphrey – Betty G Birney

·         HIVE Higher Institute of Villainous Education – Mark Walden

·         Skulduggery Pleasant – Derek Landy

·         Missing Girl – Sophie McKenzie

·         The Recruit – Robert Muchamore

Executive producer Amanda Ross said: “We’ve deliberately chosen entertaining books to make getting to grips with reading fun.”

Richard and Judy launched their weekly book slot in 2004, which has helped boost book sales. According to trade magazine The Bookseller, sales of the titles featured in the first year of the book club were worth £25m.
