Creating Positive Futures is a new programme developed by BELS. It isdesigned to help disadvantaged young people engage with the labour market and progress from unemployment into sustainable employment. We secured funding from the London Development Agency in March 2010 for the project, which will run to June 2012, with co-financing from the European Social Fund, to provide support to 417 young people aged 16 - 19 and help 139 into employment.
We are working with partners across 12 London Boroughs to provide a holistic programme for young people not in education employment or training (NEET). The aim is to empower and help them into employment through the provision of skills training, one-to-one coaching, adventure team building and employer engagement.
The support includes industry specific experiential training targeted at entry level job opportunities in such sectors as catering and hospitality, construction, retail, media and other related training provision. To date, over 190 young people have already joined the programme.
