Employability Project 2006 to 2007

Phase One of this project for improving the employability of 14 to 19 year olds in South London was initiated in the autumn of 2005. The London South Learning and Skills Council (LSLSC) commissioned BELS to undertake a review of employability provision in all the South London boroughs. This preliminary work was seen as preparation for developing an education strategy, Phase Two, for the boroughs that will improve the employability of young people in the area. The review was based upon research and analyses of current policy documents and evaluations of developing provision. A strategy was produced in June 2006.

Phase Three of the project was introduced early in the autumn of 2007. Eight institutions in South London with post-16 learners participated in this part of the project. They were responsible for piloting a new set of materials developed for use by students to support their employability. It was also hoped that the materials would help students identify how their learning programmes can promote employability. An interim review of the materials based upon the experiences of each institution during the trial period was produced at the end of March 2007.

The institutions participating in the project were:

  • Bromley College
  • Charles Darwin School
  • Croydon College
  • Glenthorne High School
  • Holy Cross School
  • John Ruskin
  • Ravensbourne School
  • Richmond upon Thames College
  • Ursuline High School
