Employer Recruitment for the New Diplomas

BELS was recruited by the Learning & Skills Council to engage employers from across the South London area to become new Diploma Business Champions.

We all know that learning by doing has the highest levels of understanding and retention and hence a good Work Experience Placement can have a life changing impact upon a young person.

Research into students’ poor performance in vocational courses identifies the major weaknesses as lack of ability to analyse and evaluate. This is also a weakness within the middle management of most organisations. BELS ran seminars in Croydon throughout March 2007 with local schools and employers to promote the new Diplomas and obtain feedback on the draft toolkit.

Employers throughout the South of London gave advice and feedback online or in person at interviews and seminars. BELS would like to thank all those who participated in ensuring that the toolkit is an employer led document that meets their needs and will help provide the young people studying the new Diplomas with a positive and useful Work Experience.

A final Toolkit was produced incorporating the feedback and examples provided by the employers. A copy of the toolkit can be found in PDF format below or you can request a hard copy from Andrew Garlick on the following details, Tel: 020 8726 0700 or Email: andrewgarlick@bels.org.uk
