Health and Safety Part 1

Aim: To help learners identify and interpret safety signs. To make students aware of hazardous working conditions, how they can cause harm, and how they can be improved. To introduce learners to personal protective equipment. To make learners aware of the importance of personal hygiene, first aid and reporting accidents. To help learners understand what causes accidents and who’s responsible when they happen.

Objectives:

  • To enable learenrs to identify the four main categories of safety signs and introduce fire fighting signs.
  • Help learners identify hazardous working conditions and give them the opportunity to carry out a practical hazard-spotting session in a work environment.
  • Enable learners to identify why and when to use protective equipment and have the opportunity to try on the equipment.
  • Enable students to identify good hygiene and poor hygiene.
  • Familiarise learners with the contents of a first aid kit and what first aid involves.
  • Understnad what happens when an accident is reported.
  • Help learners to consider why accidents happen and how they can be prevented.
  • Ensure learners understand the health and safety responsibilities of employers and employees.
