Dr John Stealey
Chair of the Finance Committee
John Stealey has a background in research and project management which has involved directing and leading complex, multidisciplinary projects across an extensive range of scientific disciplines. His initial graduate training career was in the food industry, following which his PhD in Biochemistry led to a 20 year career in Government science with the Home Office, working to quantify the evidence base in a number of policy areas. In 1993 he set up his own consultancy group to manage and direct research programmes for both private and public sector clients.
Alongside his professional career, John was Chair of the Board of Trustees of Carers Bromley for five years, during which he built the organisation significantly, both in terms of income and staff levels, in order to better provide carer support services across the London Borough of Bromley.
John has an extensive background in third sector governance and joined BELS in 2009, firstly as a Trustee and then as Chair of the Finance Committee, overseeing BELS’ expenditure programmes and ensuring that probity of BELS’ financial management is maintained.
