John Stealey
I have a background in science and research and my early career was with the Home Office leading teams of scientific, technical and administrative colleagues working across a wide range of policy areas. I moved from this in 1993 to set up my own consultancy group specialising in project management of research programmes for both public and private sector clients. During this time I also chaired Civil Service recruitment interview panels. Alongside my business responsibilities I was a trustee with Carers Bromley and chair of the board of trustees and directors for 5 years, standing down in 2007. As a team, my colleagues and I were able to build the organisation significantly in terms of income and staff levels and, as a result, were able to reach a greater number of carers throughout the Bromley borough. I have a particular interest in good governance which underpins the development and performance of organisations. I enjoy strategic planning and analysing how businesses can meet their aims whilst exploring any new initiative which can help enhance and develop those aims. Therefore, I can bring a strong commitment to the work of charitable sector coupled to a clear understanding of the demands of the work place and opportunities for employment and new careers. In my spare time I learnt to fly gliders and hot air balloons but on more sensible days keep closer to the ground and enjoy walking and singing in two choirs (one of which requires dressing-up in Elizabethan costume!).
