Matthew Hogg
Trustee
Matthew Hogg is a Trustee of BELS. Matthew was appointed Chair by the Board in Spring 2009 following a year as Treasurer. He stood down as Chair in November 2011. Matthew continues in post as a Trustee, a role he has held since 2006.
Outside of BELS, Matthew is Vice President at Liberty International Underwriters where he leads the Strategic Assets Division. The division underwrites specialist risks in the insurance classes of intellectual property, reputation, cyber and non-material damage business interruption. Prior to joining Liberty Matthew was the EMEA Technology Leader for international insurance broker Marsh and before that an underwriter at Lloyd’s of London where he created a number of niche products in the intangible assets space.
Matthew was short-listed for special commendation for the internationally recognised Chartered Insurance Institute/The Sheikh Abdullah Foundation Young General Insurance Professional Award 2005 and in 2008 was named as 1 of 12 “rising star” under-35’s in the Financial Services sector in London to participate in the TalentHouse training and development initiative.
Matthew regularly contributes articles to national and international trade publications and has written chapters in “Valuing Intellectual Property in Japan, Britain and the US” in 2004 and, “Risk Management and Innovation in Japan, Britain and the United States” in 2006, both published by Routledge. Also further book chapters in “The Handbook of European Intellectual Property Management” in 2007, and “Managing Business Risk, 7th Edition” in 2009, both published by KoganPage.
Matthew’s experiences are therefore predominantly in the risk management, legal and intellectual property fields.
Matthew holds a degree in law, a Masters in Law & Economics and an Advanced Diploma in Insurance. Matthew is also Chairman of the Risk Committee of the IAFS, on the Membership Committee of the IAFS and a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
