Barnet A-Level And Vocational Students Celebrate Exam Success

Students across Barnet are celebrating their A-level and vocational results today (14 August) with many schools across the borough having reported improvements on last year’s results.

 

Over the last eight years, A-Level results in Barnet have consistently been in the top 5% of the country. This trend looks set to continue as provisional A-level results from 22 of the 27 Barnet schools with a sixth form show more outstanding results this year.

 

Results received so far in Barnet show 97.4% of A-level examinations were awarded an A* to E grade in line with the national average.

 

85.7% of students achieved an A* to C grade (above the national average of 77.7%). 66.9% achieved an A* to B and 39.9% A* to A. The percentage awarded an A* to A is over eleven percentage points higher than the national average (28.2%) and is over eight percentage points above the London average (31.3%).

 

Among those receiving their results were pupils from The Compton School in North Finchley.

 

Luca Reddi achieved three As in A-level Physics, Product Design and Maths, and will now go on to study Aerospace Engineering at Sheffield University. He said: “I feel great – I feel a bit tired; I didn’t get much sleep.”

 

Luke Collins got three As in A-level Chemistry, Biology and Geography. He will now go to Cardiff University, where he hopes to transfer onto a Dentistry course. He said: “It was a dark time, waiting for my results, but now everything seems to have got brighter. I’m optimistic! It just feels unreal, but it feels right at the same time.”

 

Xhoana Spacho received a Distinction* Distinction (D*D) in BTEC Business and an A* in A-level Sociology. Her friend Chiara Rapia got a Distinction* Distinction (D*D) in BTEC Business and an A in A-level Sociology. They will both now go to City University to study Law. Xhoana said: “I am happy I got the results. I can’t wait to go there, explore, get more experience and hopefully we will become good lawyers. That’s the goal.” Chiara said: “I am just relieved.”

 

Louise Ismail and Andrew Hammond, Co-Headteachers at The Compton School said: “We couldn’t be prouder of all our students who we know worked so hard, with the support of their teachers and families, to achieve these results. Our mission at The Compton School is to secure academic ‘Excellence for All’, and we know that our students will now be able to take their next steps with confidence they will succeed. It is very rewarding to see students we have worked with heading off to the universities or careers of their choices.”

 

The students’ successes across other schools in Barnet have enabled many of them to secure places at their chosen universities and on coveted apprenticeships.

 

Students across the borough have also been receiving results from vocational courses (Applied Generals and Technical Levels), with some schools today reporting their highest number of Distinctions* and Distinctions.


We are excited to share 2025 also marks the first set of T Level results in Barnet.  T Levels are offered at Saracens High School and Barnet and Southgate college.  Leke, Rezwan, and Karim who have been at Saracens High School since it opened in September 2018 achieved Merits in their Digital T Level, which is equivalent to three B grades at A Level. Leke and Rezwan are both going on to study Cyber Security and Computer Science at The University of Brighton. A Health student, Macie-Leigh, had the ambition of becoming a midwife for many years and so the T Level Health course, with a specialism in midwifery was the perfect course. Having worked closely with Middlesex University throughout the course and making use of the 'hospital suite' at the University as part of the course it was a natural choice for her. Macie-Leigh and her family were delighted with her Merit grade, she shared she feels very well-prepared having completed such a focused vocational course.  At Barnet and Southgate College Matthew Dowling, who studied a T Level in Plumbing, has secured a job placement as Trainee Site Manager with Taylor Wimpey. Roshnie Kaur did a T Level in Lab Sciences and is going to Westminster University to study Pharmacology and Physiology with a year abroad placement. Ruksar Miah who did T Level in Early Years, has secured employment at a local nursery.

 

Councillor Pauline Coakley Webb, Cabinet Member for Family Friendly Barnet, said: “Congratulations to everyone who picked up their results today whether it be A Levels, T Levels, Applied Generals or Technical Levels. You have put in a lot of hard work and deserve a successful future. Your next steps in further education or work will enable you to fulfil a valuable purpose in life.

 

“We thank you all and also say thank you to all your teachers and the whole school community who have helped make your achievement possible.”
