The London Music Fund has announced Barnet resident Genesis Brown as their October Scholar of the Month. An Autistic Year 6 student at Orion ARP Primary School, Genesis is a talented musician who plays recorder, ukulele, saxophone, and piano, and is also a singer and beat-boxer.
Genesis was nominated for the award by Orion after learning the recorder as part of whole class ensemble tuition, extra-curricular recorder club and then in 1-1 lessons; even when lessons stopped due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, Genesis continued to practise his recorder at home.
Since starting his Scholarship with the London Music Fund, Genesis has started to learn the saxophone and is making "brilliant progress," with his mother saying that the saxophone is his "new love."
BELS Service Lead for Autism and Sensory Specialist Team Kim Miller expressed pride in Genesis' achievement, saying, “Striving for success, Genesis has shown how his talent, perseverance and determination will help him reach his goals and achieve his dreams, demonstrating Autistic thinking and the power of perusing one’s interests.”
